Welcome to the Dhaka Film Festival (DFF) 2025 recap! This was our very first edition, and we are thrilled by the amazing response we received. Here’s a look at our timeline and what’s coming up next!
Timeline of Events
Initial Submission Period: We opened for short film submissions on December 25th, 2025. Over the next couple of weeks, we were amazed by the enthusiasm from all over Bangldesh! Altogether, we received an incredible 180 submissions!
Extended Submission Window: While the main submission deadline was January 7th, 2026, we offered a short extension until January 14th for those who requested a little extra time to finalize their films.
Preparation for the Jury: By January 15th, we will begin finalizing all submissions and reaching out to participants if any materials, like trailers or posters, are missing. We’ll contact you via phone call and email to ensure everything is ready for the jury.
Jury Process and Event Gap: In early February, the initial jury will start reviewing the films, selecting the top 50 short films for the final round. We won’t reveal the jury board initially to keep things fair and unbiased.
We also want everyone to know there will be a brief pause due to the Bangladesh Parliament election on February 12th, followed by Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, which will take place from mid-February to mid-March. After the Eid vacation, we’ll announce the screening session dates and venues, likely in April.
Big opportunities are coming!
We’re also excited to share that big news will be announced on our screening day. Dhaka Film will officially introduce three key initiatives dedicated to supporting filmmakers in Bangladesh. One of these concerns – already familiar to many through the press – focuses on connecting brands with DFF2025 Nominated independent filmmakers, creating meaningful collaboration opportunities and sustainable creative support.
Alongside this, we will unveil two other new initiatives aimed at building a strong creative community and nurturing passionate Bangladeshi filmmakers through collaboration, growth, and shared learning. Full details will be revealed on our screening day – stay tuned!

We’re also excited to announce that the second Dhaka Film Festival will open for submissions on our screening day in April 2026, and submissions will run until September 2026. We’ll also be announcing volunteer opportunities in February for anyone interested in getting involved behind the scenes.
